Charlie Marie | Turns Two | Orange County

Charlie Marie is as spunky as her adorable name! She is turning two this June and I couldn’t have asked for a cuter way to photograph this special occasion for her. I blushed a million times over when her mom contacted me and wanted to mimic Charlie’s second birthday photo session after my daughter’s first birthday. She even wanted to do a two-year old cake smash…how cute is that, right?! She definitely tweaked the session’s decor to fit Charlie Marie’s style and personality. Her mom spray painted gold eucalyptus leaves and added some pretty greens and white roses. The cake was a beauty as well. They ordered a yellow ruffled buttercream cake that complimented her black and white romper (etsy purchase) and gold headband. I love it when parents make a little and buy a little. It’s a perfect combination if you ask me. And then these yellow wildflowers appeared and it was like the heavens parted and I sang a sweet “ahhhh” song of praise to the photography gods. Ha! Happy Birthday to sweet sweet Charlie Marie that doesn’t really do dresses but loves rompers and cake! 2015-05-26_00012015-05-26_00022015-05-26_00032015-05-26_00432015-05-26_00062015-05-26_00072015-05-26_00082015-05-26_00092015-05-26_00102015-05-26_00112015-05-26_00122015-05-26_00132015-05-26_00142015-05-26_00152015-05-26_00162015-05-26_00172015-05-26_00182015-05-26_00192015-05-26_00202015-05-26_00212015-05-26_00442015-05-26_00232015-05-26_00242015-05-26_00252015-05-26_00262015-05-26_00272015-05-26_00282015-05-26_00292015-05-26_00302015-05-26_00312015-05-26_00322015-05-26_00332015-05-26_00342015-05-26_00352015-05-26_00362015-05-26_00372015-05-26_00382015-05-26_00392015-05-26_00402015-05-26_00412015-05-26_0042

Isaac | First Year Photos & Cake Smash | Los Angeles

How does a year fly by so quickly? Everyone always says it, but parents don’t actually feel it until it’s time for their child’s first year photos. I’ve had so much fun hanging out with and photographing Isaac’s family since before he was even born. I welcomed them into my “photography family” as I like to call it over a year ago when I photographed their maternity session, then came newborn photos, holiday sessions, and now this…year one for baby Isaac! I know these adorable babes don’t realize that I know them so well, especially when their parents are trying to stuff cake into their mouths and I’m some weird lady that makes silly sounds and obnoxious faces, but in the end we all have a good laugh and memories to literally last a lifetime.

Isaac had three boyish and super festive outfits for his session. He’s been teething for a while so until dad threw him up in the air is when he was willing to show us his pearly growing whites. But his pouty lips is all I would need to frame! And for his finale, he looked back at us with one finger up in the air, as if he was saying, “you put me through three outfit changes, had me eat a whole cake, and you did this all in front of a very public audience…I’m going to flip you all the number one!). Gotta adore this kid! Happy first Isaac!!!2015-04-14_00012015-04-14_00022015-04-14_00032015-04-14_00042015-04-14_00052015-04-14_00062015-04-14_00072015-04-14_00082015-04-14_00092015-04-14_00102015-04-14_00112015-04-14_00122015-04-14_00132015-04-14_00142015-04-14_00152015-04-14_00162015-04-14_00172015-04-14_00182015-04-14_00192015-04-14_00202015-04-14_00212015-04-14_00222015-04-14_00232015-04-14_00242015-04-14_00252015-04-14_0026

Cristiano & Mackenzie. Cousin Smash. Los Angeles Lifestyle Photographer.

I thought I’d start everyone’s Monday on a happy note by posting the two most adorable cousins you ever did meet. First of all, they look like they could be twins. Secondly, that hair! I love the golden locks. Cristiano and Mackenzie are true blue first cousins. Their mommies are sisters and I have had the pleasure of photographing their beautiful families a few times now. Mackenzie and Cristiano turned one this summer and what better way to celebrate, then to have a joint Smash?! Their mommies had a vision (Mackenzie was going for a modern Alice In Wonderland look and Cristiano’s theme was Monster’s Inc.) Mackenzie’s mom always scores on Etsy (where she found her whole outfit) while Cristiano’s mama made his insanely cute overalls and birthday pennants for both kiddies! The location was simple because we wanted the models to shine…and they did! Happy Birthday doll faces!!!

Frida. Smash. Whittier Lifestyle Photography.

This little nugget was a bit of an overachiever in the cake smashing department. Frida is timid, at first, then she starts working in the smiles, and bam! she finally comes out of her delicate shell and is the life of her own cake smashing party. In a few weeks Frida is going to have a totally cutesy girly themed and colored “picnic” first birthday party. The invite is not your typical red and white gingham blanket with primary colored decor and ants crawling on top of grapes and cheese. Nope, it’s very girly girl with lots of pastels and chevron, polk a dots, lemonade and of course watermelon. Nothings wrong with the boy version of a picnic party, but to transform it into something that’s can be called a pretty picnic is pure genius. Good job mama! Happy first birthday little Miss Frida!

Ruby. Smash. Los Angeles Smash The Cake Photographer.

Little Miss Ruby Zelda is in a league of her own. She is as adorable as her cute little orange Mexican huaraches. Ruby is turning one and here is her circus-themed Smash session. I kinda wanted to borrow all of her outfits, well for my daughter of course. Aside from all her smiles and silly faces, her favorite leisure activities are listening to songs (best sung by her dad) and dressing up in all of the creative little getups that her mom puts together. Happy Birthday Ruby Red (what I like to call her).

Bodhi. Smash. Los Angeles Baby Photographer.

As soon as I walked in, this little nugget treated me like I was his sweet heart. He batted his gorgeous big eyes and wanted to play right away.  He really knows how to impress a girl. Then his mom and grandmother informed  me he likes “all” girls. There went my little ego. I’m sure this stud muffin isn’t going to have any problem in the ladies department when he gets older. Throughout his big Smash session, he wanted to play, laugh, crawl and then giggle some more. Then came time for the big smasharoo and as you can see, he took his job very serious. Bodhi ate, smashed, pounded, flipped and then finally demolished his first birthday cake. Besides it getting all over the place, a bit did actually get in his mouth. Happy Birthday Bodhi! bb1bb2bb3bb4bb5bb6bb7bb8bb9bb10bb11bb12bb13

Carmen Olivia. Smash The Cake. Los Angeles Baby Photographer.

I’m in love and in awe. Olivia, (as her parents call her) has been just as adorable since before she was even born. I’ve photographed this pretty thang when she was in her mama’s belly, just a wee newborn, and now as this precious one year old. Seriously, I love what I do!

For Smash sessions I allow the parents (usually the mamas) to come up with the theme or concept. Erica (Olivia’s mommy) said mermaid. I said fantabulous! We went from there and well you will just have to scroll down to see. Just like  her maternity session with all the outfit changes, she brought out the cuteness for this one too.

Olivia posed like a model. No, like a real model with very sophisticated looks at first. Then after a little warming up and some pearls to gnaw on she let loose. We got our smiles! Don’t be fooled by her dreamy eyes and luxurious lashes, she’s got beauty and brains. Olivia is already babbling lot of words and understands both English and Spanish. Aye, que bonita!

Benjamin. Smash The Cake. Los Angeles Baby Photographer.

Darling Benny. I know your parents call you Benjamin, but I can’t help it that every time I hear your name I reminisce of when I used to swoon over Benjamin “The Jet” Rodriguez (aka Benny) from the Sandlot. I’m sure all the little girly tikes are already making your parents start to think of how they will keep your handsome self safe in your teen-years.

You can tell that his parents are his everything because no matter where I tried to position my camera, he always seemed to give his parents the first smile. After photographing his baptism, I was lucky enough to get a peek at his very modern nursery. This set the stage for his Smash session.  After speaking with his mama, we figured out that we were going to go for a clean, modern, and simple Smash the Cake session. Benjamin’s parents dressed up their little looker in the most fashionable outfits and accessories. I love the way the blue ikat fabric complimented his mustard pants. I was also dying over his polkadot bow ties!

Benjamin and his parents will celebrate his first birthday (as probably most summer babies do) near the cool water. They are going to have a quaint little birthday party at a remote beach near their home in Long Beach. In some of the photos below, Benjamin is wearing an adorably-orange crab beanie to represent his Zodiac birthday sign, Cancer. Out of curiosity, I looked up his sign and the best traits for this astrological sign are being charitable, loving, and faithful…more and more pluses for the ladies!

Happy Birthday Benny! I hope all your dreams come true!

I’ve been getting a lot of request from potential clients about what my current clients are wearing, so I am going to start to provide you all with the goods (style & swag).

Benjamin’s swag:

All clothing: Baby Gap

Bow ties: Jacadi Paris

White diaper cover: The Honest Company

The photos below just screams “uh-oh I got caught getting dirty while eating an entire cake.”

My favorite. Look at that smile!
It’s his birthday and he can cry if he wants to!He wanted to share…aww.Second fave! I love how the polkadots stand out in this black and white image.Hey, don’t stick your tongue out at us Mr!A grown-up (toddler-aged) little prince look.
