Generations | Family

This family is dear to my heart for so many reasons which all started over 10 years ago.

My first teaching job is where I worked along side the woman, mom and lola (grandmother) that holds this family together. She’s got more creativity in her pinky finger then I have in my whole body. Although lola’s retired she continues to teach and care for her adorable grandchildren. Yes, they are beyond blessed to have her in their lives.

Lolo (grandpa in Tagalog) puts the “h” in hustle and “s” in sweet! He’s the best of both worlds, which is why everyone loves him dearly. His smile and warmth welcomes all into his heart and home.

This generation session made my heart melt over like a good piece of cheese oozing out of a quesadilla. Not only are they my clients, but friends that have become family. I couldn’t have chosen a better session to get back into the blogging game. My New Year’s Eve resolution  so far has gotten started on the right foot! Personally I think all family’s need to take a generation session at LEAST every five years. I mean especially if you’ve got new babes, growing kiddos …and well do you really need an excuse to get together and share a couple of smiles with your family?

Brunch For Our Babe Everett | Baby Shower |Bailey Street Kitchen

I thought I might as well blog my baby shower before our babe Everett arrives and only leaves me time to snuggle and adore his little itty bitty parts. For my third and last baby shower, I really wanted to reflect more of my personal style then a classic baby shower. I love all things modern with a twist of midcentury feel, everything clean and classic, and lots of plants so that’s where my heart decided to take my ideas and turn them into my babe brunch. Indigo, tie dye and ferns laid the foundation for my color pallet and I couldn’t be happier with the way everything got literally pieced together. I grabbed items from everywhere, Ikea to store fronts in Downtown LA, while purchasing delectable desserts and renting gorgeous stands. I wish I could say I accomplished this feat all by myself, but thank goodness I didn’t have to because I wouldn’t have finished in time. My sister and her husband along with my husband all contributed to my boho-inspired intimate baby shower brunch. I can’t say thank you enough for how much I adore them for all their love and support .

We kept the itinerary simple by only playing a few fun games. My favorite game what guessing the title of the most poplar children’s books. The reader of the year, my mother, would have won but that wouldn’t have been fair. The runner up was my dear friend Charm who just so happens two have two toddlers and is a teacher. Hmm, I guess that wasn’t too fair to all the other ladies either. Ha! What I love the most is to give, so what better way to show my appreciation to each guest for attending then to give them something that I would love. Each friend and family member had a chance to create their own DIY hanging succulent terrarium. It turned out to be a huge hit! After that, each guest was asked to draw an image that would represent the letter of whichever alphabet card they had chosen. I have to say I loved watching everyone color and create their best work so that I would have a full alphabet card collection for my babe Everett.

Oh and I can’t forget about the beautiful personalized calligraphy that I ordered from a hip instagram follower. My dear sweet girlfriend Svea also came to the rescue the day before my shower to help me design the Pinterest wall hanging, which I loved so much that its now it’s hanging in my house. Also big hugs to my girl Nancy, she makes amazing cakes and her decorating skills are superb, but I didn’t want her to do any work so instead she baked my cake and covered it in fondant and I tried my very best to decorate it. I hope I lived up to her cake decorating standards!

Esther, Jimmy and Baby Nicholas. Family. Whittier Family Photographer.

I can’t help but pinch myself every time I photograph a new family. I love what I do and I love how I feel because each family is ready to show me their best outfits and smiles. When I say they always show me their best, and I do mean their best, it always melts me heart like an ooey-gooey hunk of brie fresh out of the oven. Well, who doesn’t love cheese, right? So, seeing these families, like Esther and Jimmy, gaze, kiss, squeeze and tickle one another is the sweetest part of all and makes me feel like I’m “just living the dream.” This is like adding the brown sugar right on top of that baked brie. Oh ya! Just try it and spread it on top of your carb of choice. You can thank me later…hee he.  Esther and Jimmy told me they started their family a little late, but that made waiting for ten-month old Nicholas even better. They adore him and I can just feel their love just gushing out. After our super mini studio session we walked to gather some family memories at a nearby park. As we were walking there, Esther blew my socks off. I asked her, like I ask all my new clients, how she heard of me. She responded that I was refereed to her on an invite-only Facebook page for mommies. She told me there were a lots of photographers that are suggested on the wall, but while she was looking, she chose me. I was so flattered that I’m surprised she couldn’t see my heart pounding back and forth out of my shirt (you know like those Warner Bro. cartoons). This just confirms that this was fate and I couldn’t be happier to have met this trio. You have one of the sweetest families, Esther. Thank you for selecting me and don’t forget to invite me into that mommy page. (Just sayin’)

This is my favorite… (no explanation needed)I love his puckered up look!Nicholas loved his snacks. He looked too cute eating them too! Can’t help it, second favorite!Esther your smile is amazing and bright!Someone wanted to get in on the kiss too:)Esther hand-made this superhero cape with the initial “N” on the back for his Superhero-themed first birthday party. Can I get one of these please-adorable!This kid is ready to take flight!
