Nana. Remembering. Family.

I only like posting happy and lovely images and words on my blog. But today I can’t help but post some images and write some thoughts that will create sadness in my heart as I relive this memory, but also happiness to remember why it’s so important to post the love that I will always have for my nana, Emma. Although my family and I celebrate my nana’s life and the foods she loved, her hilariously truthful sense of wit and the little moments  we shared together that touched our lives. We also remember the month of September when  our nana was stripped away from us. She lived a very long life, a whole ninety-one years long, but for us that just wasn’t enough. If you love someone with all your heart time is never enough to be with them.

Call us skeptics, but I like to think of us as believers. We believe that our little nana sends us signs down from above to let us know that she is thinking of us, especially during this painful month. The year she had passed I would hear her favorite songs playing on the radio, I would see butterflies, which I think represent her, all around even though it wasn’t spring, and many other little symbols that reminded me that she was still around. Just a few days ago I                          and then last week as I was listening to 98.7  and the VJ had mentioned that many listeners thought Of Monsters & Men’s “Little Talks” lyrics was about a schizophrenic, but it’s actually about an individual with Alzheimer’s.  The song started to play and I instantly thought on my nana. Although her dementia never progressed into a full-blown case of Alzheimer’s, it was pretty intense to watch her slip in and out of the present. As I listen intently to the lyrics my eyes swelled up with elephant size tears, because the song had so much truth of what it is to be the one with the disease and the one watching.

Nana, we love you. We will always remember you in our hearts and minds.
