Brothers & Sisters. Family. Orange County Family Photography.

The Ortega family consists of three gals and five guys ranging from age sixteen to forty. These loving, athletic and down-to-earth handsome men and beautiful women came together to create a gift for their mother. A gift of the love their share for each other as well as for their mommy.  For as long as they could remember, they’ve heard Lorraine talk about how she has always wanted a portrait of all of her children, but there was never a perfect opportunity. According to this enthusiastic bunch of eight brothers and sisters, Lorraine is a top-notch mom! Since these kids are all pretty much grown up, they said it was easier for them to make up a little white lie (Lorraine please don’t get angry with them as it was all for a good cause) to get away for an afternoon. Since only three still live at home, it made it that much easier for them to get all dressed  up and “shine bright like a diamond” (hee he, couldn’t resist throwing that in there). Now it was a matter of just keeping this plan top secret and preventing someone from going A-wall for the photo. Although their lives are at different places now and only the youngsters live with their mom, they still have one thing in common; they share unconditional love for their mother and think the world of her. After each new story or one of them describing her, I couldn’t help but sigh…”awww.” Lorraine has raised an entire starting basketball team….and some.  They each described how, “She’s always there for us. She makes me feel special. My mom always wants to know where we are or what we are doing because she cares.” Now, Lorraine isn’t just lucky, she’s blessed. Along with these healthy, good looking, and kind souls, she also has one grandson, Dominic, who is also just as gentle and well mannered as the rest of the bunch.

As we were wrapping things up guess who decides to start blowing up everyone’s cell phones? You got it! Their mommy! We all froze (like if she could see us…lol) and agreed for someone to call her back with another little twist in the story. One of the gents called her back and said we were safe…like Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez sliding home (Including Dominic, they can fill the Sandlot). I’m sure by the time they surprise Lorraine on Mother’s Day and allow her to read this post, all of their sneaking around will have paid off and this will be another memory to add to the list. Speaking about memories, let’s not forget about how the guys had preplanned a football style pose they wanted me to take a picture of, so I did…but that one is for their photo album. All of us girls were just busting up, thinking of how they had thought of this way in advance (who says only girls are obsessed with photos?)

Thank you, Anthony, Anthony Paul, Alicia, Gina, Raymond, Angelica, Matthew, and Michael (and Dominic) for all making your session so easy and fun! Lorraine, they showed me a photo of you and you are just as angelic on the outside as they described you on the inside. Happy Mother’s Day!

{Also a big thanks to Adam, Alicia’s husband, for being my assistant for the day. Hee he}

Sofia. Five Years Old. Los Angles Lifestyle Photography.

Let’s scream, “Happy Birthday” at the top of our lungs for Sofia. She’ll be five, yes a whole hand worth of fingers, on the 17th of this month. Life is a celebration in and of itself but of course there are certain years that should have a mini-parade in honor of such milestone. Each day of life deserves to be lived to its fullest…but turning 1, 5, 10, 16, 18, 21…(I can go on and on but you know where I’m going with this) deserve extra party hats, birthday horns, and bags and bags of confetti!

Sofia is a girly-girl who loves American Girl and pretty things in glitter and gold (like the gold crown she’s wearing in her photos). She loves being a big sister to Gaby and is an excellent student (I should know because my mom subbed for her once…I know small world, right?). If there were ever any lil gal that could carry on a full semi-adult conversation then it would be her. While chatting away, she speaks her mind and is full of life and sunshine. After talking to Sofia you’ll feel just like I did with high spirits and a warm heart. Above all Sofia’s zest for life, her bright eyes and sweet smiles are perfection, just like the rest of her.

Happy Birthday Sofia! You are a sweetheart!

Gaby, Ash, Noah, Mateo & Serene. Family. Orange County Family Photographer.

As a photographer, I always imagine what a dream session would look like…until now. Gaby, also a photographer and a good friend, asked me to capture some memories of her absolutely adorable and stylish family of five, or like she calls it #subingpartyoffive. The location, their outfits, the flower crowns and all the tenderness that they shared that afternoon made for one magical session. The night before the shoot I was as excited and nervous as if I was having the first day of school jitters that you get as a kid. I know Gaby as a friend, so not only was I like, “What… you want me to take your photos?” but I wanted to make a really good impression on her as a photographer. She had told me that they have never taken professional family photos before. You see…us photographers are always behind the lens, even with are own families, so we seldom have our photos taken. No pressure right? Right….I couldn’t sleep as I tossed and turned and had a gazillion types of poses running through my mind. As soon as I arrived I forgot all but a few, yet it didn’t matter because I didn’t have to do much but let her family have fun and express their love for one another.

Gaby and Ash have three children. Noah (age 4) and Mateo and Serene (age 3). Yup, they have a set of #twinkies and I’m in awe! Not only does Gaby dress them to impress, but they are super sweet kiddos. Oh, lets not forget how gorgeous she is! They’re basically a perfect little family of five. They are all as lovely on the outside as they are on the inside. This year Gaby and Ash will celebrate their seven year wedding anniversary. Happy Anni guys. I wish you lots of love and happiness and many more moons together! I hope you love these photos as much as I do!

Victoria. Senior Portraits. Los Angeles Lifestyle Photographer.

Oh to be young again. I mean if I was really young I would stay up all night watching cult classic 80’s movies while eating a whole tub of cookies and cream ice cream then scarf down pineapple pizza and wash it down with a large Tierra Mia Horchata Frappe. Oh was I daydreaming of food again? I’ve really got to stop that! Victoria is as lovely, beautiful, and free (well at least to eat what she wants without gaining a million calories) young lady. She’ll graduate from La Habra High School this May. Victoria is involved in ASB and is a very well rounded gal, so it won’t surprise me if all of the college applications that she submitted came back as acceptance letters. Good luck Victoria and Congratulations on your graduation!

Jennifer & Andy. Maternity. Los Angeles Maternity Photographer.

Jennifer and I corresponded back and forth quite a few times before her maternity session. Usually it’s not too easy (well at least for me) to read someone just by their email alone. But with Jennifer, I knew right away she was sincere and as real as they come. In one of her emails, she sent me a photo of her and Andy on their wedding day and then another of recent snapshot of herself. Along with the email she said, “Here, so you know what you are working with.” After reading that I chuckled a bit thinking oh this girl Jennifer has a bit of comedic sass to her. We met me on the North side of Griffith Park and I was delighted with their excitement for the session. The time seemed to pass quickly because our conversations just rolled on with ease, as if we were high school friends catching up after a hiatus of several years. They are excited for the arrival of their son, Benjamin, who will make his appearance in a few weeks.  I have a feeling Benjamin is going to have his dad’s ear-to-ear smile and his mother’s gorgeous golden locks. Congratulations to you both!

Jessica, Steven & Andres. Maternity. Los Angeles Maternity Photographer.

What’s the best feeling after having your first child? Well, having your second of course. Jessica, Steven and their son, Andres, are preparing for the next addition to their family. This April they will welcome another handsome little fella. Yes, I did say April. Jessica’s bump is so petite and pretty, it almost looks as if she’s only six months instead of almost due! Jessica and Steven are planning on decorating the nursery with various types of transportation vehicles…more specifically, trains. That’s why they chose the Travel Town in Griffith Park for their maternity session. I felt like I was photographing a model because this mama was such a natural throughout our session. Her and her stretch-mark-free tummy totally worked the camera. She also brought a beyond beautiful quilt that her great-grandmother had made. I thought it was so sweet that she wanted to incorporate the blanket into their session. I just love it when my clients (especially maternity clients) bring heirlooms and antique, vintage or memorable items from their family’s treasure chests. By the way, her 90-something year-old great-grandmother is still alive. Lucky ducky! I had such a great time getting to know her (total sweetheart), him (he’s hilarious), and their’s (a cuter than a button toddler). Oh, Jessica’s sweet mother also joined us. Apart from Jessica being so drop dead gorgeous, she’s also a teacher. I knew that’s why it seemed like we just clicked as soon as we met.

Congratulations Jessica and Steven. I know you are going to have another adorable baby boy!

Lisa, Aldous & Baby Amelia. Classic Newborn. Los Angeles Newborn Photography.

A guy walks into a bar. He orders a drink, gets married and has a baby… just thought I’d start off with some Friday Humor, but that’s actually how Aldous met Lisa. Aldous, a native Californian works for the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica and Lisa is an Interior Designer who moved to Cali 13 years ago from England. This very contemporary couple wanted a lifestyle newborn session with their darling nine-day old daughter, Amelia, at their home in West Hollywood. As I entered their house, I thought, WOW! Lisa must be secretly spying on one of my Pinterest boards. Ha, Ha. Oh my little ego…she is an amazing interior designer! As new parents they had their concerns about the usual: sleepless nights, diaper rash, and coming to the realization that they are in charge of another human being. I still pinch myself thinking about how I’m the boss and responsible for two itty bitty people.

Have you ever heard a real accent from England? Well I fell in love with Lisa’s. I really enjoy listening to someone’s accent. I guess it kind makes me feel like I’m traveling to another city, state, or country. Sometimes I go overboard with them too. I started to hear an accent in Aldous’ voice and asked where he was from. He chuckled a bit and said it must be a Santa Monica one…oh Aldous you are a character. I crawled inside my little hole and from then on vowed never to ask about accents unless I was in another country…lol. Baby Amelia was just a dream. Only nine days old, but she already had a good amount of chubs on her. She was gorgeous and very wide awake for a little one that wasn’t even two weeks old. Although most parents (and myself) want their newborn images to seem effortless with their baby sleeping peacefully in their arms, I think it’s also sweet when their newborn is gazing into their parents’ eyes. Aldous wasn’t sure if his sweet Amelia’s baby blues were going to change so he asked me to try and capture those while she was awake. That is another perk of having your little one awake during their session. You get to capture their gorgeous sparkling eyes.

This amazing home had so many beautiful backdrops, I was in backdrop heaven. Just scroll down and take a peek of Amelia’s super chic nursery.

Congratulations Lisa and Aldous! You have a lovely family!
